Why should I host my own affiliate niche site when I can use free sites like Squidoo or Hubpages instead?
Free community websites are like swimming pools… When the other kids “wee wee” in the water, it ruins it for everyone!
Community websites like Squidoo are repeatedly abused by spammers who have no problem polluting the internet with page, after page of junk and scams. For every good and ethical affiliate marketer, I’d be willing to bet there’s a thousand spammers!
When a niche becomes overrun with spammers, they bombard these community websites with pure junk. If the site owners don’t put a stop to it, they will lose their readers. So, how to they stop it? They ban any further posts on that niche and they pull all the existing ones. If you happen to have an article on that same niche, no matter how great it is, it gets pulled too along with your future sales!
So, after going to great lengths to find a good product and write great ad copy…. BAM! In a split second it’s all gone. Without any warning! Now, multiple that disappointment times a thousand because if you’re a good marketer you will produce thousands upon thousands of campaigns over the years. I have seen this happen to friends that have depended on free sites for ALL of their campaigns and they were absolutely devastated when they lost all their income!
Now, this isn’t to say that free websites don’t have a useful place in affiliate marketing. They do and we’ll cover that in a later article. But for now, let’s get you moving in the right direction and get you up and running with your very own website!
